Becoming a Vegetable, Because You Are What You Eat

So today marks the official start of my venture into vegetarianism. I've been longing to do this for so long, but I've finally found the courage to actually try now. I'm going to try to cut out all meat and animal by-products from my food, and will only allow myself one slip up per week, if at all, and then only chicken if I do slip up.

I'm really excited about this, far more than I can convey on the internet. :) It's a big change, but a good one, and I'm super excited. :)

Wish me luck!

Final Farewell

I feel the need  to post that the poor little ghost shrimp did not make it through the night. :( Whether it was from trauma from the fights between Henry and it or from the stress of the whole situation, I don't know, but I had separated them a while beforehand and I'm not really sure what went wrong with the poor little creature. :(

Rest in peace, little guy, and I'm sorry that I was inevitably the death of you, which I had feared I would be. :(

King Henry... Drama "King", That Is

Hhmm...

It seems I've been lured into this whole blogging idea. ;) I guess it wouldn't hurt if I had a place to talk about my beliefs and goals and what-not, right? Right.

Now, being a betta lover, I believe that entitles me to gush a little about my littlest love. Well, he's not the littlest anymore, but I'll get to that.

Henry is my baby. He's a shorter-finned betta, meaning he wasn't inbred to have long flowy fins like most bettas. So he's more natural. ;) And I'm nothing if not all about natural. Trying to go green and organic and hell, even vegetarian, though my fiance argues that that's not natural. :-p

Henry's all different shades of purple and is quite the little attention-whore and drama king. He'll "play dead", floating on his side at the top of the bowl, to get attention from me. He's precious. :)

And he has to eat his food then regurgitate it in order to eat it because it has to be soft enough for him. He's a silly little thing. :) But apparently, he's not very friendly with other creatures.

Today, I tried to introduce him to a ghost shrimp, because I've read that some bettas get along well with them. And Henry seemed okay, until the shrimp flipped out and freaked Henry out, and then Henry got all defensive. Sigh. And so began the battle that lasted about half an hour with Henry trying to find the illusive little shrimp (he's see-through, that's why he's called a "ghost" shrimp :-p ) and then the shrimp, who is one fast little thing, flitting off and Henry freaking again.

But I've kinda become attached to the little shrimp and don't want to take him back, so I might buy him a little tank and put it next to Henry's and hope that they become used to each other so that I can put them together one day. A girl can hope, right?

Henry isn't very happy with me at the moment. :( I just wanted him to have a companion so that he wasn't so lonely during the day when I'm away. Sigh. The best of intentions, as they say...

Well, I believe this should suffice for a first posting on my blog. :) Au revoir!
